German presidency row shakes Merkel's coalition

BERLIN (Reuters) - Angela Merkel's centre-right coalition seemed dangerously close to rupture when her Free Democrat (FDP) partners defied the chancellor and backed an opposition candidate for the German presidency, coalition sources said on Monday.
